Are you feeling like the grass is greener on the other side…of the fence? If it’s a green lush lawn you’re after all you need is a little tender care and maintenance to your yard.
A thick well kept lawn is the best defense against weeds, brown or bare patches.
1. Mowing
- Let grass grow to 4” before mowing and try to keep it at 3” tall. There is a ton of benefits to taller grass. It promotes deep roots that don’t require as much water plus scalped grass turns brown faster.
- Don’t forget to sharpen your mower blades at the start of the season. Dull blades tear rather than cut. If you notice brown tips on the lawn this might be a sign you need to sharpen your blades. Emerald Cut Lawns changes blades every week.
- Use the mulch setting. You will use less water and fertilizer because it prevents evaporation.
- Avoid scalping the grass.
2. Feeding
- Fertilize when the time is right. Spread granular, show-acting fertilizer. Aerate the lawn to treat compacted soil Mulch with organic matter. Apply pre-emergent fertilizer early April and late May.
- Fertilize & Aerate
3. Watering
- An established lawn needs no more than an inch of water per week. If you wish to conserve water, consider planting drought-tolerant grasses.
- Avoid over watering or under watering.
